In one of our team meetings, we learned something that stayed with us.
shared a tradition from his friend and a celebrated sculptor Mwandale, who comes from Tanzania’s Makonde tribe. When a child is born in her culture, they are given a taste of Aloe Vera and a spoonful of honey. A simple yet profound ritual - introducing the newborn to the bitter and sweet flavours that life will inevitably serve them.Isn’t that an interesting way to prepare for what’s to come?
Because, in between all that life throws at us - the unexpected joys, the crushing rejections, the long, slow stretches of waiting, we’re also tangled in questions. Will we get that raise? Who will love us? And how much? Will I embrace ageing or fight it? What are my top 3 ingredients for a satisfying celebration?
But what if we could recognize the taste of our experiences? What if heartbreak had the tang of Aloe Vera and a long-awaited dream carried the warmth of honey? Maybe then, when life hands us something tough, we’d whisper to ourselves,
Ah, I know this taste. This too will pass. And when life is generous, we’d savour the sweetness, knowing it’s part of the same recipe.

Savour it all,
