Before anything can take form, it needs space to exist.
The word Brahmanda, often translated as ‘universe,’ actually means space. In Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Brahma, the creator, first made space—so that everything that followed could expand, evolve, and thrive.
But this principle isn’t just cosmic, it’s deeply personal.
Think of an artist staring at a blank canvas before the first brushstroke, letting the empty space breathe before filling it with colour. Think of the way we instinctively take a deep breath before speaking from the heart, as if to hold the weight of our words. Think of how a child carefully builds a pillow fort—clearing the floor, stacking cushions, making just the right amount of room for the adventure to begin.
As the new quarter of this year starts, what if we honoured this principle in our own lives? Offering us an opportunity to ask ourselves: What do we need to create space for? Is it Rest? Creativity? Reflection? Play?
