In 2021, while collecting life lessons from young children around the world, we came across this lesson shared by 5-year-old Emma from Bulgaria, who said:
“Don’t take a bite on both sides of the ice cream (especially when there’s no sink around).”
Emma shared that once, her parents bought her a chocolate ice cream. Eager and excited, she bit into both sides, only to end up with a chocolate-smeared face, a messy shirt, and no sink in sight. It wasn’t convenient at all! So, she passed along this advice, learned the messy way.
A playful reminder that not all sweet moments need to be devoured at once. Some pleasures, like ice cream, are best enjoyed slowly, one bite at a time.
Sometimes, in our eagerness to experience everything, we turn potential memories into chaos— checking off sights on a holiday instead of soaking them in, jumping from one finished project to the next without celebrating the win, or sprinting through a park without stopping to feel the breeze.
But when we pause to notice the glimmers, to be present, to take it slow, joy lingers longer. And cleaner.
Maybe we stumble upon a lesser-known legend at a tourist spot.
Or take time to laugh with our team after a big milestone.
Or notice the soft scent of spring flowers carried by the wind.
Because slowing down isn’t falling behind. It’s choosing presence over panic. And intention over indulgence.
So this week, when you feel yourself rushing, take a pause. Breathe.
Ask yourself: How can I enjoy this without making a mess of it?
To sweet moments, savoured well,
Team FUEL
